Rage's second album is a bit of a step down from the previous year's Reign of Fear
, although it's pretty much in the same speed metal style.
Bassist Peavy Wagner's vocals again cry and dip (with the crying rather more annoying than the dipping), while guitarists Jochen Schröder and Rudy Graf (the latter making his debut here, coming in for Thomas Grüning) shred furiously. Yet the songwriting is not all that great, despite reasonable moments, as with the title track. However, on the other hand, songs such as "Streetwolf" (steeeeEEET wooolllffff!
) just sound silly.
Along with its Megadeth-like cover, Execution Guaranteed
seems to lament war and terrorism, which is all very noble, but overall the record really isn't that good.
Presumably, Wagner wasn't terribly impressed either, for he said goodbye to his bandmates and entered improved territory with a new line-up comprising of himself, Manni Schmidt and Chris Efthimiadis, and things started to look up with the subsequent Perfect Man. Rated:
